Banned Books

I am a little behind on reading the book I am on so I haven't had a new post this week.  Sooooo... I thought I would post this cool picture I found for banned book week this year.

Banned Books Week

For Banned Books Week, which will be held September 24-October 1 this year, readers, booksellers and librarians around the world can participate by posting videos of themselves reading from their favorite banned books on a special YouTube channel. Excerpts may be up to two minutes long, and people who talk about battles defending banned or challenged books make speak for up to three minutes.

The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression is encouraging booksellers to film their customers as part of this effort and will provide instruction on how to create the videos. Booksellers can send the videos to ABBFE, which will edit them, add store names and logos and post them. The videos will be tagged so that stores can put them on their websites, blogs, Facebook pages and Twitter accounts.

ABFFE is also helping booksellers participate in more traditional ways: its Banned Books Week handbook offers tips on promotions, including making displays, as well as listing posters that can be downloaded and reproduced at copy shops. The American Library Association has promotional information, too.

Passage to Dawn by R.A. Salvatore Review

Goodreads description:

Revenge and Resurrection in a Frozen Wasteland!

Drizzt and Catti-brie have been away from Mithral Hall for six long years, but the pain of a lost companion still weighs heavily on their strong shoulders. Chasing pirates aboard Captain Deudermont's Sea Sprite is enough to draw their attention away from their grief. Then a mysterious castaway on an uncharted island sends them back to the very source of their pain, and into the clutches of a demon with vengeance on his mind.

So book 10 of the Drizzt book series was only OK for me.  My least favorite so far.  I just kinda thought this book was a long story with one little task at the end.  Just long and boring really.  I am ready to be caught up in the series (which now has 19 books) so I am going straight into book 11 after finishing this one.

One of the things this book did was wrap up a lot of old plots from other books. So I guess in a way it was necessary book to tie some things together.  I was really surprised and enjoyed all the sailing on the high seas in this book.  The Sea Sprite makes another appearance!  Along with our old friend the Captain!

The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa Review

I have been reading a lot of books that are first in the series but never finish the series because I have so many other books to read.  Well... so I decided to go ahead and read the second book in the Iron Fey series.  I enjoyed it, here is the goodreads description of the book:

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.
Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

My review (including spoilers):  I think this book was mainly about the love triangle.  Team Ash or Team Puck.  The whole book was about this.  There was a weird prom scene in this book that was so unnecessary.  All of a sudden Megan and her two boyfriend are dancing the night away.  I hated that part of the book.  I like that we now have the two courts admitting that there is an iron court.  Finally maybe the third book can move on!

Another thing I think it strange in this book is that suddenly Meghan has iron powers even though she is half human and half summer fey.  Odd.  I am sure it will be explained later but I do think maybe it should've been wrapped up in this book.   I really liked the character Ironhorse in these books... too bad he won't be back.  :(

Well I am glad to finally be finishing up a series.  I am going straight into the next book now instead of putting other books ahead of it!!

Question this week:
How/Where do you get your books? Do you buy them or go to the library? Is there a certain website you use like paperbackswap?

I always get my books from the library.  Rarely do I buy books.  This is only because I read so many so if I actually bought them from the bookstore I would be BROKE.  Oh but I did recently this year buy a Nook Color so I do have to buy those books.

Question this week:
What do I do when I am not reading?  Wow I have sooo many interests outside of reading so I guess I will just pick one.  I love love movies.  In fact... just this week I camped out at the theater for the final Harry Potter.  We started there Wednesday night and watched a double feature last night (and actually I am just getting out of bed).  It was so fun... here are some great pictures from the event!
