Sad about those leaving Blogger

I am a little sad about those leaving Blogger.  Not really sure why there is such a mass exodus of bloggers leaving Blogger.  They all want us to follow them in other ways now.  By email... but I get enough spam that I don't want a bunch of updates from blogs, by RSS, well I don't use RSS, by saving their blog in my favorites... well I like to just skim blogs through the blogger updates not go to their page everyday to see what they are talking about especially if possibly the post doesn't interest me. There is also follow from Network Blogs but that barley works.  I follow my own and I think it is supposed to show up on facebook or something but has never worked.  So in the end it is a bummer for me that they are all leaving I will miss following them without hassle.  Maybe I just don't know enough about the difference between the two and what makes Word Press so much better?

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline -Review

I picked up this book because I saw that it was getting talked about everywhere.  And I love video games so the name of the book sucked me in too.  Here is the goodreads description:

Year 2044 is an ugly time. Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes grim surroundings jacked into OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets. Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world by OASIS creator James Halliday. Fiendish puzzles will yield massive fortune--and remarkable power--to whoever can unlock them. At the first puzzle, the whole world is watching. Thousands of competitors join the hunt--some willing to really murder. But he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life--and love--in the real world he's always been so desperate to escape. Are you ready?

Wow! What a fun journey this book is.  I love how the book is full of video games, movies and pop culture!  Though I think that if you don't enjoy these things you would still enjoy the book.  It really gets you thinking about what the world will be like when we have used up all our resources.
Most of the time people "live" in a virtual world... which today I think the only games comparable would be World of Warcraft or the new Star Wars game.  What fascinated me was that when you were in the OASIS you could visit million of worlds.  Some were replicas of Dungeon and Dragon games!!  I play D&D so I think it would be so fun to go onto one of these worlds and play it in 3D!

The book did remind me a little of Snow Crash and I liked that book a lot too.  But I am sure not every book can be 100% a new idea. I kinda wish the book would've had pictures to go with the plot.  So many games and album covers are mentioned.  I would love to see what some of them looked like while reading.  I just want to go through the book and make a list of all the movies and video games being played and play them myself!!!

Check out all these different covers:

Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

First off ... this has nothing to do with reading.  But I still thought I would share it with all my followers.  My husband and I participated in a Polar Plunge.  OK... I'll admit.  I didn't end up jumping in.  We kinda screwed up.  It cost $85 a person and we started our fundraising two weeks before and didn't think we would get enough money.  So we set up only one account.  WELL we ended up raising $320!  But when we called they wouldn't separate the money into two people.  :(  So my husband ended up going alone.  It was still a lot of fun!  He said it was such a shock to the system when you jump in but a whole lot of fun!  My uncle has down syndrome so this cause means a lot to me.  Plus Special Olympics is only privately funded, no government assistance at all!  So every dollar really counts. Here are some more pictures:

Unfortunately I don't have a pic of my hubby jumping in since I was filming BUT as soon as we have it on youtube I will post the link to that here.  (He is currently in bath warming up).   If you get the chance to do this go for it!  Your bucket list will get shorter!

UPDATE:  Here is the video  I have to leave a link to our website instead of youtube

Follow Friday (#27)

This is the day of the week where we get to know each other better by answering a question devised by our lovely hostesses Parajunkee & Alisoncanread. We also gain new followers by joining each other's sites via GFC, so please let me know if you're a new follower since I automatically follow back. And now for this week's question....

Q: What would your prefer: reading your favorite book over and over again until you got sick of it OR reading 100s of mediocre books? And why?

Well... I guess this means I could only read one favorite book forever... or 100s of other books?  Well I wouldn't want to read the same book forever that's for sure.  So I would be 100s of other books.  I like to read new authors and see what they are about.  You never know if you'll find someone you like!!
